This Earth Day, Don’t Stop at Habits. Fund Climate Solutions.
How everyday people can back real climate solutions through regulated investment crowdfunding
Today is Earth Day.
That matters more this year, not because the calendar says so, but because the evidence keeps mounting around us. The World Meteorological Organization says 2015 through 2025 were the hottest 11 years ever recorded. It says 2025 was the second or third hottest year on record, at about 1.43°C above the 1850–1900 average, and that extreme weather last year affected millions of people and caused billions of dollars in losses. None of that is abstract anymore. We can see the damage. We can feel it.
So yes, recycle. Use less. Waste less. Drive less. All of that matters.
But Earth Day should also remind us of something else: our personal habits, while important, are not the only lever we have.
In fact, they may not even be the most powerful lever.
We can only recycle 100 percent of the plastic we buy. We can only avoid buying 100 percent of the plastic we would have purchased. Those choices matter morally. They matter culturally. But they do not scale the way capital does.
Investment does.
When we invest in climate solutions, we do more than reduce our own footprint. We help finance infrastructure, technology, and businesses that can reduce emissions, expand resilience, and accelerate the energy transition beyond our own household. And if those investments are well chosen, the capital can come back to us and be deployed again. Personal restraint has limits. Productive capital, at least in theory, does not.
That does not mean a small investment solves climate change. It does not. No serious person should pretend otherwise.
What it does mean is that investing is one of the few ways ordinary people can participate in building climate solutions at a scale larger than their own consumption.
That is where regulated investment crowdfunding becomes interesting.
Under Regulation Crowdfunding, everyday people can invest in private offerings through a registered broker-dealer or funding portal. The SEC notes that investors must open an account with the intermediary to participate, and it also warns that these investments are speculative and illiquid. In other words, this is real investing, not donation-based crowdfunding, and readers should approach it with both excitement and caution.
For readers who want climate-focused deal flow, the two specialized places I’d highlight right now are Climatize and Honeycomb Credit, which says Raise Green is now part of Honeycomb Credit. Honeycomb now explicitly promotes climate investing on its platform, while Climatize is focused exclusively on renewable-energy investing and says investors can start with as little as $10. Climatize also describes the kinds of projects it supports as including solar, battery storage, EV charging infrastructure, and energy efficiency.
That accessibility matters.
If you’ve never set up an account with Climatize, you can get a $50 investment credit to add to your first investment of at least $10 if you use our referral code: QKWNSH. You can register on the site almost instantly, but you need to complete your investor profile to get the $50 credit. When prompted (finally!) for the referral code, have it handy so you don’t miss out on your $50.
At Climatize, the low minimum means this is not reserved for the wealthy. But I also want to be transparent that the setup process is more involved than many readers will expect. Climatize says the $50 credit becomes available after a new investor completes a full profile, and that process includes Social Security number, financial information, and ID capture for security and compliance. That may feel tedious, but it is a reminder that regulated crowdfunding is regulated like securities investing, because it is securities investing. The SEC makes the same basic point: you are opening an account with a regulated intermediary, not just clicking “back this project” on a donation site.
And here is my full disclosure: if you qualify for that $50 credit using our link, you get $50, and I get $50, too. Win-win!
If you want help finding opportunities, that is part of what we do here.
Every Monday, we publish a list of new offerings, and climate solutions are frequently included. For our Impact Members, we also maintain an investment directory with hundreds of companies to choose from, including climate solutions, and each company is paired with a proprietary due diligence report. That directory grows every week.
And every Friday, for Impact Members, we publish Devin’s Impact Pick of the Week. Often, that pick is a climate solution.
In other words, if you care about climate and want to move from anxiety to agency, you do not have to start from scratch. We are building tools to help you find opportunities, assess them, and act with more confidence.
This Earth Day, I am not asking you to believe that one small investment changes everything.
I am asking you to consider that where you place your capital says something about the future you want to build.
You can still recycle. You should.
You can still reduce waste. You should.
You can still change habits. Absolutely.
But you can also fund solutions.
And that may be one of the most powerful things an ordinary person can do.
