The recent success of four regulated crowdfunding campaigns highlights the momentum of impact-oriented equity and debt raises across diverse industries. From heart-health technology to clean-energy finance, these offerings enabled thousands of everyday investors to back mission-driven startups under official regulatory frameworks. As CT Green Bank CEO Bryan Garcia notes of its Green Liberty Notes program, crowdfunding “bridges the gap between the climate investment marketplace and our local economy,” supporting small businesses and sustainable growth. In this article we examine four companies – Future Cardia, CGB Green Liberty Notes, Diem, and Perrystead Dairy – each of which recently completed a successful Regulated Crowdfunding campaign. We summarize their mission and value proposition, the security and platform used, funding goals and amounts raised, key milestones, and how they plan to use the proceeds.
Future Cardia (Heart Failure MedTech)
Future Cardia is a Florida-based medical technology startup developing a tiny implantable monitor to help manage heart failure. Its mission is to transform cardiac care with continuous remote monitoring and AI-driven analytics. The device – implanted in a brief office procedure – collects comprehensive cardiac data to alert doctors and patients before a heart crisis occurs. Future Cardia’s work has earned it partnerships in the Johnson & Johnson Innovation network, and its early device trials impacted 39 patients in 2024.
The company’s latest Reg CF campaign (on the StartEngine platform) offered common equity shares. With a modest $7,500 minimum funding goal (and a cap around $3.07 million), the round ultimately raised $2.62 million. The proceeds are earmarked for clinical operations, R&D, working capital and marketing to support FDA trials and commercial rollout. Future Cardia (founded 2019 by Jaeson Bang) turned down traditional VC to tap thousands of mission-minded investors, and to date has raised over $14 million via angels and equity crowdfunding.
CGB Green Liberty Notes (Clean Energy Finance)
CGB Green Liberty Notes is a Connecticut-based debt program run by the Connecticut Green Bank. Its mission is to accelerate adoption of clean energy and efficiency in local small businesses by channeling citizen investors’ capital into interest-free energy loans. Each Green Liberty Note is a one-year note (4.5% fixed interest) that finances Eversource’s Small Business Energy Advantage (SBEA) efficiency upgrades. To date the Green Bank has mobilized over $2.9 billion in clean energy investments statewide.
The 12th Green Liberty crowdfunding round (May–June 2025) ran on the Honeycomb Credit platform. It carried a $50,000 minimum goal (maximum $350,000), with any citizen able to invest as little as $100. The debt offering raised about $250.6k. Proceeds support the SBEA program’s loan pool (in effect, paying down prior energy-efficiency loans). This round continues a track record of oversubscribed raises – the 9th through 11th rounds all hit their caps – reflecting strong community appetite. In total, the Green Liberty Notes program has now raised over $3 million from 40+ states and dozens of Connecticut local investors. The campaign is explicitly impact-driven: as Bryan Garcia explains, it “allows investors across the country, including the communities of our state, to directly support energy efficiency for Connecticut small businesses”.
Diem (AI-Powered Social Search)
Diem is a New York-based digital media startup and social search engine designed specifically for women and gender-expansive people. Its mission is to create safer, community-curated search results by combining AI algorithms with human-moderated “conversation threads.” Diem’s founders (Emma Bates and Divia Singh) launched the platform in 2019 and have since seen explosive growth – their user base has grown 1100% in 13 months, with social media engagement doubling in the last half-year. Notably, Diem has forged partnerships with the National Domestic Violence Hotline, Bumble, Girlboss and even Meta (Facebook) to extend its reach and ensure trust in its content.
In early 2025, Diem conducted a Regulation Crowdfunding round on the Wefunder platform. The offering was structured as a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) – effectively a convertible note – with a 20% discount and a $14.8 million valuation cap. The campaign had a $50,000 minimum goal and raised about $143.5k. Investors will eventually convert to equity upon the company’s next equity raise. Diem plans to use the capital to hire additional engineers, roll out new features and scale marketing and community growth. By blending social impact (empowering underrepresented groups online) with growth potential, Diem’s campaign exemplifies how crowdfunding can support mission-led digital innovation.
Perrystead Dairy (Sustainable Food Production)
Perrystead Dairy is a Philadelphia-based artisan creamery known for its award-winning American original cheeses. Founded in 2019 by Yoav Perry, the company uses traditional cheesemaking techniques with grass-fed milk from local family farms. Perrystead emphasizes sustainability and regenerative agriculture: it practices rotational grazing and partners with local farmers to ensure high animal welfare and environmental stewardship. Its cheeses are sold through regional retailers, restaurants and online, putting a modern spin on Philadelphia’s cheesemaking heritage.
In its recent crowdfunding campaign on the SMBX platform (a Reg CF portal), Perrystead Dairy issued 5-year revenue-share notes (a debt security) to accredited and non-accredited investors. The offer carried a low $10 minimum investment, with a $10,000 minimum funding goal and $200,000 cap. The notes pay 10.75% interest, reflecting the high-growth yet capital-intensive nature of artisanal food production. As of closing, Perrystead raised about $38.7k. The company will use the funds for equipment upgrades (e.g. a new pasteurizer), improved packaging, website enhancement, and hiring sales/marketing staff to expand its market. By tapping Reg CF, Perrystead broadened its investor base with community supporters of local food and sustainable farming.
Campaign Snapshot
Each of these campaigns was executed under a regulated framework (SEC Reg CF or equivalent), providing transparency and investor protections. They span diverse sectors: Future Cardia (medical devices), CGB (sustainable energy finance), Diem (digital media/community platform), and Perrystead (food/agriculture). They also use different investment instruments: two rounds offered debt securities (CGB’s energy notes and Perrystead’s cheese notes), one used equity shares (Future Cardia), and one offered a SAFE (Diem). This variety allows investors to choose risk/return profiles that fit both financial goals and impact objectives.
Importantly, all four campaigns were fully funded (meeting or exceeding their minimum goals) and have moved forward in their respective markets under compliance with securities regulations. For investors, these offerings exemplify the promise of impact-driven returns – the hope of financial upside alongside positive social or environmental outcomes. For entrepreneurs and communities, they illustrate how Reg CF and similar platforms are democratizing access to capital. By enabling everyday Americans to fund innovations from life-saving heart monitors to climate-focused lending and local food production, this wave of regulated crowdfunding is building a more inclusive, mission-oriented market for early-stage investment.
The Bigger Picture: What This Means for Founders & Investors
For Startups:
Regulated crowdfunding works across industries: health tech, clean energy, social platforms, food, and beyond.
Pick the right security type. Equity offers ownership and long-term relationships. Debt attracts community lenders. SAFE notes provide speed and flexibility.
Platforms like StartEngine, Wefunder, SMBX, and Honeycomb are not interchangeable — each has different strengths and investor audiences.
Show more than a product. Show traction, a real market problem, and why you’re uniquely equipped to solve it.
For Investors:
Diversification is key. You can back a social network one month and a cheese company the next. Spread your bets.
Understand the risk-return dynamics of each security: equity = long-term; debt = shorter-term, lower risk; SAFE = potential high-reward with delay.
Engage with campaigns on platforms that provide detailed disclosures, transparent communication, and founder videos.
Conclusion
The recent successes of Future Cardia, CGB Green Liberty Notes, Diem and Perrystead Dairy underscore a broader trend: regulated impact crowdfunding is gaining real momentum. Across fields as disparate as medtech, clean energy, digital media and food, entrepreneurs are leveraging platforms like StartEngine, Wefunder, Honeycomb and SMBX to raise millions under SEC and regulatory oversight. This model not only fills a funding gap (especially for companies led by founders outside traditional VC networks) but also aligns capital with purpose. Each campaign shows that retail investors – motivated by both return potential and social mission – can play a vital role in scaling innovation. As more states and regulators embrace such offerings, we can expect continued growth in this space. In short, these four campaigns illustrate how crowdfunding under regulation is democratizing capital and fueling meaningful enterprise growth in the economy of tomorrow.
