Every election is framed as the most important election ever. I suppose that is true. No past or distant future election matters more than the one right in front of us, regardless of what or who is on the ballot.

But even then, I think, he was laying a foundation for arguing that votes cannot be relied upon, enabling him to activate a mob on January 6, 2021, when he lost the election. But for his rapidly failing popularity, he might have gotten away with much worse at the midterms.
