I’m not a financial advisor; nothing I write in Superpowers for Good should be considered investment advice. You should seek appropriate counsel before making investment decisions.
As we gear up for the 1:00 PM Eastern, April 23, meeting of the Impact Cherub Club, we invite you to join us. The club is an informal gathering of friends who meet up to review impact investments everyone is eligible to make and virtually anyone can afford. We share responsibility for completing basic due diligence before making investments. No one is required to invest.
There are no dues or fees to participate, and I don’t touch the money. When members invest, they do so directly for their own accounts. We benefit from new members only by the fresh perspectives they bring and our growing social impact. Please join us!
Next Meeting—April 23, at 1:00 PM Eastern
At our next meeting on April 23, at 1:00 PM Eastern/10:00 AM Pacific, consistent with our plans for future sessions, the agenda will have three items:
Diligence Reports
Education Moment
Preliminary Consideration of New Candidate Investments
I’ll review those items in reverse order.
New Company Consideration
After some preliminary screening, I’ve shared some candidate offerings with the members of the club to choose which we’ll review this month. Members chose the following:
Handprint
Handprint, with a valuation of $23 million, is raising funds on Wefunder. The company has developed a SaaS marketplace that enables companies to increase their profits by restoring the planet. Handprint is a nature tech company that gives verified Nature Credits to companies that offset their carbon footprint and help restore ecosystems. The company is unique in rewriting capitalism with ecosystem restoration, for which it won the Microsoft Green Tech Challenge 2021 and Tech in Asia Startup 2023. Mathias Boissonot, Dr. Ryan Merrill, and Simon Schillebeeckx founded Handprint in December 2023. The current crowdfunding campaign has a minimum target of $50,000 and a maximum target of $1.24 million. The campaign proceeds will be used for US sales and marketing, advancement of the software solution and impact data team, and acquisition of subsidiary companies in Indonesia and Singapore. Well Water Finders
Well Water Finders, with a valuation of $4.68 million, is raising funds on NetCapital. The company has developed the technology to locate water in a drought-stricken world. Well Water Finders’ patented equipment provides insights into the depth, volume, and location of groundwater and addresses challenges in agriculture, ranching, municipalities, and real estate. The business has a working prototype and has a pilot underway with Texas landowners, realtors, and commercial developers. Andrew Vandekop and Teisha Vandekop founded Well Water Finders in October 2020. The current crowdfunding campaign has a minimum target of $10,000 and a maximum target of $1.2 million. The campaign proceeds will be used for manufacturing, R&D, new hires, management, and marketing. (Courtesy of KingsCrowd.)
Education Moment
We’ll be discussing Impact Assets' new Give-to-Invest program, which allows relatively small groups to organize donor-advised funds that even track sub-accounts for their members.
Diligence Reports
We’ll begin with the due diligence reports from the Impact Cherub Club members who volunteered to research the companies after we briefly learned a bit about them last month. After hearing the members’ reports, we’ll vote to determine whether or not to recommend investment in the companies. The decision will be made available to everyone who registers to attend, including those who don’t make it. Register here.
Here are the companies we’ll learn more about this month:
Got Bag
GOT BAG North America, with a valuation of $12 million, is raising funds on Wefunder. The company makes travel bags and urban lifestyle products using recycled Ocean Impact Plastic. GOT BAG has sold over 100,000 products online and to elite retailers like Saks, Free People, and REI and spans three continents with over $20 million in global net revenue in 2023. Benjamin Mandos founded GOT BAG North America in March 2023. The current crowdfunding campaign has a minimum target of $200,000 and a maximum target of $500,000.
