Not good. Not good at all. Really a test of how we handle mortality is to break something important and see how we handle it. In 2010 I stumbled backwards and tripped over garden hose, did a one point landing on my hip on my cement porch and was ultimately whisked away by some very good looking firemen to my local hospital. Xray showed no hip fracture, but I could not stand...only heard the crunching of bone bits as they tried to usher me out of radiology. Look again please. Well... whaddaya know... looky there.. fracture of neck of femur. Repair, not replacement, surgery next day, in- patient for a full week, then transferred to an absolutely awful Rehab/Nursing home for two weeks. Nope... left on day 3, due to revolting food, obnoxious Nursing Aides, and a wonderful physical therapist who said I could go home if I could transfer from bed to chair, then chair to car. 13 years later and I've never been the same. Seems my awesome surgeon set that hip/leg 1 1/2 inches shorter than it should be., so walking is difficult. Running? Nope. You'll be stronger than ever with your Power Hip, but may need to take up water aerobics for your new exercise plan. I feel your pain! The worst is behind you and you will be better than new soon. Be patient, compliant with your PT, enjoy more time with your family. You're very lucky to be home so quickly. Hope your Christmas will be oodles better than Thanksgiving was. OH, and there's no shame is needing some pain management from time to time.
Ann, thanks for this great feedback. I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. You were about my age when you broke your hip in a very similar way! That's wild. I'm sorry your surgeon didn't do what mine did. Mine made clear that the data is overwhelming now that the approach your surgeon used doesn't work for the long haul. It sounds like it has been difficult. I like the suggestion for water aerobics. Whatever I do, I know I have to do something besides just eat. :) I'm looking forward to a better Christmas!
