For two decades, impact investing has been the domain of the wealthiest people on the planet. One of the efforts I admire most in the past decade has worked to allow people willing to commit as “little” as $25,000 to participate.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have $25,000 to play with. When I invest $100, it is a big deal to me. That is one of the reasons I love impact crowdfunding. We can now invest as little as $100 (occasionally even less) at a time in startups and other small businesses that really do make a difference in the world.

Some social enterprises will have more positive impact in the world than nonprofits, suggesting that investing $100 you eventually get back—perhaps with interest—may do more good than donating $100 to a charity.
