The PurposeBuilt100™ Winners Who Let the Crowd In: 18 Companies, $90 Million, and 26,000 Everyday Owners
Nine of them told their story on Superpowers for Good before they ever won a trophy. One month from today, they take the stage at SuperCrowd26 — and there's a seat with your name on it.

In 2023, a fintech founder named Matt Venturi opened a Regulation Crowdfunding campaign for a company most Wall Street veterans would have said was unfundable by ordinary people: a platform to rebuild how initial public offerings get priced.
He hit the $5 million Reg CF ceiling — the legal maximum, the hard stop — in about 39 days. Roughly 3,700 investors got there first.
To put that in perspective: in all of 2025, out of more than a thousand Reg CF campaigns nationwide, only nine companies reached the cap at all.
ClearingBid is now a PurposeBuilt100™ winner. And when we went back through the winners list looking for companies that had successfully raised from the crowd, we found something we didn’t expect.
It wasn’t one or two. It was eighteen.
What we found in the winners list
The PurposeBuilt100 application data flagged ten winners as Reg CF issuers. Our research surfaced eight more with real, documented investment-crowdfunding histories that weren’t tagged at all.
Together, these 18 companies have collectively raised more than $90 million from the crowd.
A few of these numbers deserve to be said out loud:
LiquidPiston — more than $50 million across five separate campaigns (three Reg CF, two Reg A). Alec Shkolnik’s rotary-engine company was among the very first businesses in America to clear $1 million under Reg CF, back when that felt impossible. It also holds over $65 million in U.S. defense contracts. The crowd got there before the Pentagon did.
Groundfloor — the first real estate crowdfunding platform to earn SEC Reg A+ qualification. More than $20 million in equity from 7,000+ retail investors, with a share price that went from $10 in 2018 to $50 in 2024.
Health Care Originals — $3.8 million for an AI wearable that listens to your lungs and predicts an asthma crisis before it happens. Sharon Samjitsingh has had asthma since birth and nearly died from it more than once. She built the thing she needed.
Neighborhood Sun — closed at $930,000, roughly 87% of the regulatory cap in force at the time. Community solar, funded by the community. The symmetry is almost too neat.
Healthycell — the cleanest arithmetic on the list: $250,000 from exactly 250 investors. Opened November 2021, closed January 2022, press release at both ends. If you want a textbook Reg CF campaign, that’s it.
And at the other end of the scale, My Panda raised $124,000 on a $6 million SAFE. Tamara Lucas built it as a single working mom 500 miles from her extended family, overwhelmed by her own to-do list. That’s not a rounding error. That’s a woman who convinced strangers to bet on her arithmetic of exhaustion — and now Google Atlanta and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta employees use the app.
The number that actually matters isn’t the money
Add up the documented investor counts across these campaigns and you pass 26,000 investor positions.
Twenty-six thousand people who could have put that money into an index fund and instead put it into a hemp insulation factory in Jerome, Idaho. Into a fish cannon that carries salmon over dams. Into organic tampons. Into a coffee shop in Englewood, Chicago.
Here’s the thing about that: an index fund never becomes an evangelist. Azure Printed Homes raised over $2 million across five campaigns and — in co-founder Gene Eidelman’s own framing — walked away with a community of roughly 2,000 supportive investors. Those aren’t cap-table entries. They’re a distribution channel, a referral network, and a customer base that has already voted with its wallet.
That’s the part traditional venture capital structurally cannot replicate. You can buy a board seat. You can’t buy 2,000 people who want you to win.
The market backdrop
2025 was the strongest year for investment crowdfunding since the 2021 peak: $924.8 million raised in total. Reg CF climbed 11% to $378.3 million. Reg A+ exploded 124% to $546.6 million.
And notice the platform on the right-hand chart, highlighted in gold. StartEngine facilitated $89 million of that Reg CF volume — the #2 platform in the country.
StartEngine is also a PurposeBuilt100 winner.
Sit with that for a second. One of our honorees isn’t just a company that raised from the crowd. It’s a company that built the road the crowd travels on — and Ron Miller co-founded it in 2014, when the JOBS Act was still mostly theory. Kingscrowd, another winner, is the ratings and analytics layer sitting on top of that same market, and Chris Lustrino funded it with $5 million from 3,600 investors using the very rails his platform rates.
The infrastructure, the analysts, and the companies are all on the same list. That’s not a coincidence. That’s an ecosystem reaching maturity.
Three things this data changed the mind about
1. “Crowdfunded” stopped being a consolation prize. There’s a lingering assumption that companies raise from the crowd because institutions said no. Look at the list again. Hylio sells spray drones to Wilbur Ellis, King Ranch, and the USDA, has $35 million in lifetime revenue, and is Pentagon Blue UAS-cleared. Airthium came out of Y Combinator. Groundfloor is a public reporting company. These founders chose the crowd. Several chose it repeatedly.
2. The repeat-raiser pattern is the real signal. LiquidPiston: five campaigns. NEIF: nine offerings. Azure: five. Whooshh: four platforms. Tampon Tribe: six rounds. Nobody goes back to a funding source that treated them badly. The repeat behavior is the review.
3. Impact and returns weren’t in tension here — they were the same sentence. Every one of these companies made the PurposeBuilt100 by growing revenue. Hempitecture’s revenue rose 80% in a year. Whooshh’s rose 157% in 2025. Groundfloor’s topped $40 million, up 38.6%. The crowd didn’t fund charity. It funded compounding businesses that happen to insulate homes without fiberglass, move salmon without harm, and get diabetes education to farmworkers in Hanford, California.
The Superpowers for Good Nine
Here’s what makes this list personal for us: Nine of these winners sat down with Devin Thorpe on Superpowers for Good — many of them long before the PurposeBuilt100 rankings existed.
We didn’t discover them because they won. They won because they were building something worth discovering, and we happened to be listening early.

Why this all runs through PurposeBuilt100™
The PurposeBuilt100™ ranks America’s fastest-growing mission-driven companies by revenue growth from FY2021 to FY2025. It is, deliberately, a growth list — not a good-intentions list.
Which makes what we found here so useful. These 18 companies didn’t qualify because they crowdfunded. They qualified because they grew. The crowdfunding is how a meaningful share of them got the fuel to grow — and, in the repeat-raisers, how they kept getting it.
If you’ve ever wondered whether community capital can build companies that actually scale, this is the answer, sitting inside our own winners list, hiding in plain sight until we went looking.

One month from today, this community gets in one room. Bring a friend who still thinks impact investing means accepting lower returns. Let the data argue with them.
Methodology & sources
Companies were identified from the PurposeBuilt100 winners list, cross-referenced against the application’s Reg CF issuer designations and verified through platform pages, SEC filings, Kingscrowd research, and company press releases. Amounts reflect the most recent publicly reported figures and include Reg A+ where a company used both exemptions. Several campaigns remain active or have not published closing totals; those companies are being contacted directly for final figures. Investor counts are documented positions, not necessarily unique individuals.
