I’m not a financial advisor; nothing I write in Superpowers for Good should be considered investment advice. You should seek appropriate counsel before making investment decisions.
As we gear up for the April 18, 2023, at 1:00 Eastern, meeting of the Impact Cherub Club, we invite you to join us. The club is an informal gathering of friends who meet up to review impact investments everyone is eligible to make, and virtually anyone can afford. We share responsibility for completing basic due diligence before making investments. No one is required to invest.
There are no dues or fees to participate, and I don’t touch the money. When members invest, they do so directly for their own accounts. We benefit from new members only by the fresh perspectives they bring. Please join us!
Impact
Over the past 15 months, the Impact Cherub Club has voted to invest in 20 different startups, including:
A couple of vegan snack companies, one of which sources its product via women employed in Afghanistan.
Several renewable energy companies, including wind, wave and solar energy.
At least three construction companies working on affordable housing are included in the mix.
Startups led by diverse founders.
A wine retailer and a distillery and a tech company that accelerates growth of plants, including tomatoes and a popular recreational plant.
The wide range of impacts and communities we’ve considered inspires me every month. The extraordinary group of passionate people who gather each month reminds me that humans are equal to the challenges we create for ourselves.
Join us by registering for the meeting at 1:00 Eastern on April 18.
Next Meeting—April 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM Eastern
At our next meeting on April 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM Eastern/10:00 AM Pacific, consistent with our plans for future sessions, the agenda will have three items:
Diligence Reports
Education Moment
Preliminary Consideration of New Candidate Investments
I’ll review those items in reverse order.
New Company Consideration
After some preliminary screening, I provided members of the group with six companies that are raising via regulation crowdfunding. From the list, members voted to consider the following companies.
SineWatts
SineWatts is developing vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology that will enable electric utilities to access the energy stored in your electric vehicle. By selling power to the utility when the demand is at its peak, the vehicle owner will get top prices, enabling owners to use the revenue to help pay for the car. SineWatts is raising on StartEngine.
Sanara
Founded and led by a woman, Sanara has developed a plant-based line of skin care products. Rebekah Jasso Jenson launched the company in her quest to find better products for caring for her psoriasis-covered skin. Drawing on the wisdom of her Latin-American roots, she has developed safe and effective products. Sanara is raising on Wefunder.
Education Moment
Between discussing our investment decisions on the companies above and hearing about new companies we may further consider, we take a few minutes for training. This month, Miah Shull Olmsted, an experienced angel investor, will provide training on a template she’s developing for our due diligence process. We’re excited to raise the level of our diligence and standardize it. We look forward to Miah’s guidance.
Diligence Reports
We’ll begin with the due diligence reports from the Impact Cherub Club members who volunteered to research the companies after we briefly learned a bit about them last month. After hearing the members’ reports, we’ll vote to determine whether or not to recommend investment in the companies. The decision will be made available to everyone who registers to attend, including those who don’t make it. Register here.
Here are the companies we’ll learn more about this month:
Raise Green
Raise Green is itself a FINRA-regulated crowdfunding portal. Founders Franz Hochstrasser and Jackie Logan are passionate about reversing climate change. They see the tremendous demand for capital for green technologies already scaling up and, with it, the opportunity to allow ordinary investors to participate in the economic benefits of investing. Raise Green is raising capital via Wefunder.
Zero Carbon, Inc.
Zero Carbon, Inc. is the U.S. affiliate of a German company that has developed a technology to produce hydrogen from waste. The process also yields fertilizer and bricks that can be used in construction. The company has connections to the Fraunhofer Institute (Germany’s MIT), and the German government has validated the technology. Zero Carbon is raising capital via Wefunder.
SuperCrowd23
At SuperCrowd23 on May 10-11, 2023, we’ll have dozens of speakers, presenters and panel discussions on a range of topics, from how to invest like a pro to tips for conducting effective due diligence. Many will be focused on community building. This is a can’t-miss event for anyone interested in learning how to raise money or invest it for impact.
Superpowers for Good readers are invited to register at half-price. Be sure to get your tickets before early bird pricing ends.
Splendid! ❤️
