The Community Chest’s 85th Anniversary Gala Raises Record Amount to Help People in Need
Press Release – (Eastern Bergen County, New Jersey; May 7, 2018) — The Community Chest, a nonprofit organization serving eastern Bergen County, New Jersey, raised a record $130,000 at the Annual Spring Gala held at Montammy Golf Club in Alpine, New Jersey on April 18. These funds will be directed to the organization’s annual campaign to award competitive grants to over 20 nonprofit agencies providing services to approximately 50,000 people in need in the area.
With the motto ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’, The Chest leads initiatives and supports nonprofits that make communities stronger and benefit people in the area. Through a competitive grant process, awards are issued to nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations to support a range of needs in the area, such as hunger, afterschool programming, elderly care, career counseling for women, choral music instruction for youngsters, mental health services, environmental education, and medical care to diabetic, low income pregnant women among others.
“We were very pleased to welcome over 200 supporters to our 85th anniversary gala at Montammy Golf Club. More than 40 sponsors showed their support for The Community Chest’s work, and we were thrilled to honor the charitable work of Richard and Swati Rao Engel, ConnectOne Bank and The Rotary Club of Englewood. This special event successfully communicated our message of ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’,” said Dr. Shelly Wimpfheimer, DSW, Executive Director, The Community Chest.
Program
The milestone anniversary gala honored these individuals and organization for their involvement and contributions to the community: Philanthropist Award-Richard Engel and Swati Rao Engel, Community Champion Award-Connect One Bank, and Public Spirit Award-The Rotary Club of Englewood. Emmy award winning Lori Stokes, co-host of Good Day New York on Fox 5 NY WNYW, provided remarks. She has been involved with numerous charities and served on The Chest’s board of managers.
Proclamations recognizing The Chest’s work for over eight decades in the community were received from New Jersey Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle and the County of Bergen-Office of the County Executive. Under the direction of Emma Brondolo, children from The JCC Thurnauer School of Music’s Young People’s Chorus, a grantee of The Chest, entertained the audience.
