Snoop Dogg Launches Crowdfunding Campaign for ICUD Youth Football League in Des Moines, Iowa
Entertainment Icon partners with popular crowdfunding site, Tilt, to raise funds for essential equipment
October 2, 2014 – Today, Snoop Dogg launches a crowdfunding campaign on Tilt to raise funds for the Inner City Urban Development (ICUD) youth football league based in Des Moines, Iowa. Snoop is committed to giving back to youth football programs throughout the country. Over 10 years ago, Snoop started the Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) in Los Angeles, which has provided thousands of young boys and girls a positive environment to learn skills for life – championing kids to be better citizens on and off the field. His leadership and commitment to the SYFL and passion to help ICUD stems from a desire to create a positive environment in local communities through sports.
“I’m happy to be supporting the ICUD in our Tilt campaign,” said Snoop Dogg. “I’ve seen and experienced firsthand the conditions that kids are facing and I want to help do my part. Every child has a right to a safe learning environment and I look forward to helping them receive the equipment and tools they need to succeed.”
Snoop Dogg became aware of the ICUD when Former Iowa State Representative Wayne Ford, Founder and Executive Director of Urban Dreams – an inner-city resource in Des Moines, IA –contacted the recording artist and philanthropist to express the needs of the Des Moines based league that provides inner city youth a safe, inclusive community to play football. Rep. Ford has an existing relationship with Snoop Dogg and has had ongoing conversations about bringing the SYFL to Iowa.
Rep. Ford said, “The support that Snoop is giving this football league is fantastic and will help many youth in Des Moines stay out of trouble and become positive role models.”
ICUD was initially funded by an NFL AAU grant, providing 200 helmets and gear. The equipment has been well maintained and well used, but in order for the league to continue, they desperately require new helmets and gear. The program caters to kids from 3rd Grade through 7th Grade. Current University of Northern Iowa Sophomore Wide Receiver Xavier James is a former ICUD graduate, his brother, Jaylen James, is a senior at East High School and one of five varsity players who played in the ICUD league.
“Inner City Urban Development Football League is proud to announce that we have the privilege of support of Snoop Dogg and Snoop Youth Football League to help our needs for new equipment,” said DJ Roland, Inner City Urban Development. Sports League (ICUD). “The purchase of current USA football approved equipment will assist in the continued success and safety of our program. ICUD has had 9 successful seasons in the Des Moines Community, and look forward to continued growth of Strong Youth with Bright Futures in our states capital city.”
Through the 20-day campaign, Snoop will raise awareness of the positive impact of ICUD – funds raised will go directly to funding jersey and equipment for the league. Snoop has a long-standing commitment for youth development not only as football players, but also as individuals learning the value of dedication, teamwork and sportsmanship. Snoop is currently the Director of Development for adidas Football, leading the initiative to help youth and high school football programs around the country. Adidas has also committed to supporting the ICUD league.
Snoop has partnered with Tilt (tilt.com), a turn-key solution for crowdfunding. He has previously used the platform to release exclusive merchandise directly to his fans.
