Save Money On Cyber Monday; Save Lives On Giving Tuesday
Press Release – Toronto, ON – November 26, 2018: It’s great to save money, and on Cyber Monday Canadians look to their favourite retailers for extraordinary bargains. Then, on Giving Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 they can choose to give back in any number of ways – including by registering to become an organ donor. One donor can save up to eight lives – value measured not in dollars but in the gift of life.
According to Mike Ravenhill, CEO of the David Foster Foundation, less than 20% of Canadians are registered as organ donors, while close to 90% support registering. “Canadians overwhelmingly support organ donation but very few are registered. Signing up on your driver’s license which we did years ago is no longer enough – but luckily registering is extremely simple. During Giving Tuesday, we are challenging people to share their organ donor status and/or stories with some friends in the hope of registering new donors. It is a simple way to give in the most meaningful way possible.”
All Canadians need to do is go to their favourite social media platform and share different ways they are giving back, then use the hashtag #DFFGives or #GivingTuesdayCA. “Right now, Canada has one of the worst organ donor registration rates in a developed country – even though we have some of the best transplant technology and doctors. On Giving Tuesday we hope to spread the word and sign up new donors,” adds Ravenhill.
On Giving Tuesday The David Foster Foundation invites Canadians to share stories about how they are giving back. One way is to become an organ donor.

About the David Foster Foundation
The David Foster Foundation provides financial assistance to families of children for all non-medical expenses while their child is going through the major organ transplant process. Thanks to its annual fundraising efforts and the generous support of Life Legacy Members, national partners, and donors, families receive financial support for day-to-day expenses such as mortgage/rent, car payments, travel expenses, utilities, groceries and more while their child is going through the major organ transplant process.
The success of the David Foster Foundation would not be possible without the generous support of Life Legacy Members including the GAIN Group, Jim Pattison, TELUS, The Slaight Family Foundation, Parq Vancouver, Jim & Sandi Treliving and the Newton Glassman Foundation in Partnership with the Catalyst Capital Group. The foundation is also supported by national partners WestJet, Aird & Berlis LLP, Honda Canada Foundation, Schnitzer Steel and OUTFRONT Media, and community partners Boston Pizza, Oak Bay Beach Hotel and Tom Lee Music. For those who wish to have a deeper involvement with the organization, there are a number of ways to contribute including the donation of RBC Rewards and Aeroplan miles, all of which will directly help families going through the organ transplant process.
