Ride To Give Finds Niche In Crowdfunding Market
This post was originally produced for Forbes.
The crowdfunding world includes so many sites that it is difficult for anyone to keep track of them all. In the long run, it will be important for each one to find a market. Kickstarter dominates the enormous market for creatives. Indiegogo has the platform used by the widest array of sites. GoFundMe, by focusing on helping people in crisis, claims to be the biggest site of them all.
Ride to Give is a crowdfunding site that is organized to help individuals in times of trouble, much like GoFundMe. Ride to Give is carving out a niche in the wake of the crowdfunding giant by partnering crowdfunding with organized cycling events. Since founding two years ago, the nonprofit company has raised over $1.2 million for children and families in crisis.
Founders Kaete and Dave Nazaroff explain, “We are a couple with no fundraising experience who wanted to make a difference in the life of a child. What started as a single ride from NY to GA for one child, turned into a full children’s charity where we prove our slogan which is ‘Give a Little, Change a Lot.” We use crowd-funding to provide a place where our followers can give even just $2 and feel a part of something bigger than themselves, by seeing the benefit to that child.”
Ride to Give is powered by FundRazr, a crowdfunding site reports having helped people raise $67 million.
Hatton says, “The concept of crowdfunding isn’t that new – it’s essentially the next generation form of fundraising elevated by technology. FundRazr’s powerful crowdfunding platform helped Ride To Give raise over $1,000,000 with just two part-time staff. It basically levels the playing field for small to mid size non-profits, who are generally under-resourced, and allows them have an even better connection with their community and a bigger funding impact for their cause.”
On Thursday, July 2, 2015 at noon Eastern, Hatton and the Nazaroffs will join me for a live discussion about their remarkable work. Tune in here then to watch the interview live. Post questions in the comments below or tweet questions before the interview to @devindthorpe.

Ride to Give is a 501c3 (tax ID 46-2952297) non-profit charity that turns athletic ability into fundraising power for families with children who are disabled, injured, or ill. Based in Nyack NY, just outside of NYC, RTG was founded by Kaete Nazaroff and her husband, twelve-time Ironman Dave Nazaroff. In the summer of 2013 Dave completed the first annual “Ride to Give” from Nyack to Atlanta (over 900 solo miles by bicycle) in 5 days to raise awareness and donations for the family of Tripp Halstead, a toddler who suffered a traumatic brain injury in the fall of 2012. Through crowd-funding, since March 2013 Ride to Give has raised over $1,200,000 for 63 families in states throughout the U.S. We raise funds for medical equipment, travel expenses, and out of pocket costs related to having a medically fragile child.
