Devin: What is your superpower?
Nadia: Listening.
Nadia Tedeschi’s invention—a radically redesigned bedpan—solves a painfully overlooked problem in healthcare. This innovative device addresses the indignity, discomfort, and inefficiency of traditional bedpans, which have remained largely unchanged for over a century.
Nadia, a former nursing assistant, was inspired after witnessing patients endure pain and humiliation. “I had a patient look up at me through her tears and say, ‘Nobody should have to live like this,’” she shared during the interview. That experience led her to create Mylo Medical Supplies’ flagship product, the MyloPan.
The MyloPan’s unique design features an inflatable component with a built-in disposable mechanism. Unlike rigid, outdated bedpans, this upgraded version slides flat under patients, inflates to a customizable comfort level, and hygienically seals waste without requiring movement. This approach not only restores dignity for patients but also alleviates physical and emotional strain on nurses. “The current device causes more problems than it solves,” Nadia explained. “We turned every pain point into a feature of our innovative bedpan.”
To bring the device to market, Mylo Medical Supplies is raising funds through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on NetCapital. Crowdfunding allows the team to build a community of advocates, including caregivers and patients who directly understand the importance of this innovation. “We wanted to make sure we’re the company bridging the gap between medical device companies and end users,” Nadia noted. “Crowdfunding felt perfect for creating that network.”
The MyloPan is more than just a medical device—it represents compassionate innovation, fostering real change in healthcare. Crowdfunding also makes investing accessible to everyone, so patients, nurses, and others can help drive this initiative forward.

How to Develop Listening As a Superpower
Nadia’s superpower is listening, an often undervalued yet critical skill in healthcare innovation. She described listening as essential for identifying overlooked problems and creating practical solutions. “You hear everyone’s struggles day-to-day,” Nadia explained. “But being determined to solve those problems—that’s what drives innovation.” Her ability to listen actively to patients and caregivers directly shaped the design of Mylo Medical Supplies’ MyloPan, which tackles the challenges posed by traditional bedpans.
Nadia’s dedication to listening became evident early in her career as a nursing assistant. On one of her first shifts, she witnessed a patient endure overwhelming pain and humiliation while using a bedpan. The patient tearfully said, “Nobody should have to live like this.” Though her supervisor dismissed the situation as standard practice, Nadia couldn’t let it go. The experience stayed with her, ultimately leading to the prototype and eventual creation of the MyloPan.
Tips for Developing the Superpower of Listening:
Take time to understand problems from the perspective of those directly affected.
Identify recurring issues and treat them as opportunities for improvement or innovation.
Transform listening into action by using feedback to inform real solutions.
Rely on empathy to connect meaningfully with concerns, ensuring they’re genuinely understood.
By following Nadia’s example and guidance, listening can become a valuable skill. With intentional practice, it can grow into a superpower, helping to solve problems and create positive change in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!
