Here is a sentence we have heard more times than we can count, always from someone who means well:
“We can’t match a corporate salary, but the work is meaningful.”
Sometimes that is simply true. A small nonprofit has the budget it has. But the sentence gets used far beyond its honest range — as a reason not to publish a number at all, as a way to find out what you will accept before anyone tells you what the job pays, and eventually as a habit the whole sector shares without examining it.
Mission should never be used as a rationale for underpaying people.
That belief is why SuperCrowd Career Path exists — and we are proud to announce it here on Substack today.
What’s on it right now
Nine roles. Every single one publishes a salary range, because on this board that is not optional.
Community Development Investment Director — Fifth Third Bank · Dallas, TX · $96,500–$207,500/yr
Director of Grants & Impact Investments — Goodwin Recruiting · St Louis, MO · $165,000–$190,000/yr
Principal, Social Impact Funds — American Heart Association · Dallas, TX · Remote OK · $86,900–$115,000/yr
Investment Associate — Technology & Media — Cerity Partners · San Francisco, CA · Remote OK · $100,000–$115,000/yr
Managing Director, BCRF Venture Philanthropy Program — The Breast Cancer Research Foundation · New York, NY · Remote OK · $450,000–$475,000/yr
Community Impact Senior Program Officer, Florida — Knight Foundation · Miami, FL · $114,000–$115,000/yr
Sustainable Investing Co-op — Wellington Management · Greater Boston · Remote OK · $19.00–$35.00/hr
Head of Impact, Americas — Intrepid Travel · Golden, CO · Remote OK · $80,000–$90,000/yr
Manager, Project on Impact Investing — Harvard Business School · Boston, MA · Remote OK · $69,500–$113,700/yr
Three things worth noticing in that list
The range is enormous. A co-op at $19 an hour and a managing director at $475,000 are on the same board. Impact work is not one career with one salary band — it is a whole economy, and it has senior, well-compensated jobs in it. If your mental model of this field is “rewarding but poorly paid”, that list is a useful corrective.
Six of the nine are remote-friendly. Where you live has stopped deciding whether you can work in impact finance.
Look at who is hiring. Fifth Third Bank. Wellington Management. Harvard Business School. The American Heart Association. Knight Foundation. These are not fringe employers experimenting with a side project — they are building permanent impact teams, and they are competing for the same people.
Why we made salary ranges mandatory
Two reasons, and only one of them is about fairness.
The obvious one: pay secrecy hurts the people who already have the least leverage — the career-changer, the first-generation professional, the person who does not know what the number should be and has nobody to ask. Publishing a range removes an advantage the employer never earned.
The less obvious one: it is better for the employer too. A posted range filters your pipeline before you spend a single hour interviewing someone who was never going to accept. Every recruiter we know has burned three rounds on a candidate who walked at the offer. The range would have saved everyone the trouble.
If you’re hiring: it’s free, and it doesn’t just sit there
If you have a mission-driven role open, you can post it on SuperCrowd Career Path at no cost.
Most job boards take your listing and wait. This one distributes it.
Every posting goes out to 10,000+ Superpowers for Good subscribers, every day. It appears in our LinkedIn newsletter to 1,000+ subscribers once a week. And it runs across our social channels alongside everything else we publish.
That audience is the reason to post here rather than somewhere larger. It is not the general public — it is impact investors, founders, operators and people who have already organised their working lives around this idea. A smaller, better-matched audience beats a bigger indifferent one on almost every hire.
There is one condition, and you already know what it is. Publish the range.
Want to stay at the top?
Free postings sit in the list in the normal order. If you are hiring for something urgent, or competing for a candidate everyone else wants, you can take a sponsored posting — it stays pinned at the top of the board for as long as it runs, and leads the distribution everywhere else it appears.
If that would help, get in touch and we will sort it out.
If you’re looking: some honest advice
Check it weekly rather than once. Nine roles is a beginning, not a finished board, and the useful thing about a small curated list is that you can read all of it in five minutes — which is not true of the big job sites.
And when you do apply, you will already know the number. Spend the energy you would have spent guessing on the application instead.
One more thing — how this gets paid for
SuperCrowd Career Path is free for job seekers and free for employers. The courses have a free lesson. SuperCrowd.tv is free with no subscription and no sign-in. The Impact Newsroom and the Reg CF filings archive are free.
None of that is free to produce.
We keep it that way through two things, and if this work is useful to you, either one helps.
Sponsor something. We have sponsorships starting at $110 for newsletter banner packs, $225 for a Live Pitch event, and $300 a year for all twelve televised SuperCrowdHour episodes. If your company wants to reach impact investors and founders, it is among the most efficient audiences you will find. See the options →
Or become an Impact Member. $55 a year — $4.58 a month — opens the SuperCrowd Investment Directory, unlimited AI due-diligence reports at SuperImpactScore.ai, every lesson in both courses, Devin’s Impact Pick of the Week, the members-only room, and member pricing across everything else.
The first 30 days are free. Your card is not charged until day 31, and if you cancel before then you are never charged at all. No commitment, and no reason not to look.
Thanks for reading. If you know someone who should see one of those nine roles, forward this to them — that is the single most useful thing you can do for a new job board.
