Kickstarter Campaign for The Shoe That Grows Sees Growing Success
A Kickstarter campaign for a commercial version of the nonprofit Because International’s “the shoe that grows” donated by the thousands to kids in the developing world called “Expandels” is growing quickly well past the goal of $10,000.
Kenton Lee, co-founder of GroFive and inventor of the shoe that grows explains that when you buy a pair of Expandels via Kickstarter you can choose to donate a pair to a kid in the developing world who can’t afford to buy one.
The donated shoes are manufactured in Ethiopia to ensure that donated shoes aren’t displacing net jobs in the places that most need them.
Preliminary Interview with Kenton Lee, the I am a co-Founder of GroFive. And I am the founder of The Shoe That Grows of GroFive.

Kenton Lee is the founder of Because International and the creator of their first project The Shoe That Grows. After spending time living at a small orphanage in Kenya he had the idea for a shoe that could expand its size. It took six years to work on the idea. But he and his friends succeeded in developing a shoe that can grow five sizes and last for years. The cause accidentally went viral in 2015. And now there are over 175,000 pairs of The Shoe That Grows on the feet of kids in over 100 countries. Kenton is now the co-founder of the commercial side of The Shoe That Grows – a new company called GroFive and a growing shoe called Expandals. Kenton and his wife Nikki live in Nampa, Idaho with their two kids.
