Bringing Cleveland’s Startups Together with Notable VCs
Press Release – CLEVELAND, OH (March 1, 2018) – Today Jerry Harrison and Brian Smith will speak at the launch of Plug and Play Cleveland, Plug and Play’s first satellite Innovation Platform in North America outside of Silicon Valley. Plug and Play, which functions as a global startup ecosystem and venture fund specializing in the development of early- to-growth stage technology startups, announced the opening of a Cleveland location, in partnership with Cleveland Clinic and JumpStart Inc., focusing on Healthtech innovation.
In attendance tonight at Plug and Play Cleveland’s launch and Selection Day will be more than 25 corporate partners interested in exposure to disruptive startups in the Healthtech vertical. From a pool of 500 startups, Plug and Play and their corporate partners have invited 28 startups to present on Selection Day, where they will compete for selection in Cleveland’s Batch 1 Innovation Platform.
“It is so refreshing to have one of the biggest players in the startup and innovation platform world right here in our backyard in Silicon Valley, recognize the value of healthcare enough to add operations in Cleveland and entrench themselves and the companies with whom they work with into the Cleveland Clinic ecosystem. RedCrow’s focus on crowdsourcing healthcare ideas, investments, and new products and services that are also making a social impact is right in line with the innovation arm of the Cleveland Clinic, and the work that Plug and Play does, and RedCrow is honored to join our peers at the Plug and Play Cleveland kick off event.”, said Brian Smith, CEO RedCrow
The involvement of corporate partners, JumpStart Inc., a nationally recognized non-profit accelerating the success of diverse entrepreneurs and their companies, and the Cleveland Clinic, a non-profit academic medical center and leader in research, education and health information, heralds a unique moment for the city of Cleveland, and a most significant amalgam in the non-profit and VC sector.
“In 2018 we are looking forward to finding and investing in new startups that have a ‘double bottom line’ impact. Plug and Play Cleveland will be the first of many promising initiatives that will change the health industry globally.”, said Saeed Amidi, CEO of Plug and Play Tech Center.
“As we anticipated, startups and corporations from all across the globe have taken notice of Plug and Play’s arrival in Cleveland” said JumpStart CEO Ray Leach. “We are proud to be partnering with Plug and Play and Cleveland Clinic, both to attract more startups to Cleveland and to connect more startups to corporations who are looking for new innovations.”
