Report From Last Month
Last month, we convened the first Impact Cherub Club meeting and thoroughly enjoyed a preliminary review of three investment opportunities open to ordinary investors. The companies are accepting capital in chunks as small as $100 so almost anyone can invest.
After reviewing preliminary information, the group democratically decided to proceed to do additional “due diligence” or research to determine if the companies merit additional investment.
The three companies, all raising money on FINRA-regulated investment crowdfunding portal Wefunder, include:
Sirocco Energy is a startup that has patented small wind turbine technology for urban and suburban deployment.
Leanmed sells solar-powered oxygen concentrators in the developing world to address a critical shortage in remote locations.
Ziba Foods exports (tasty, I tried them) dried fruit and nuts from Afghanistan for sale in the U.S. and Europe.
Agenda for This Month
At our next meeting on March 15 at 3:00 PM Eastern/Noon Pacific, consistent with our plans for future sessions, the meeting will have three parts:
Diligence Reports
Education
Preliminary Consideration of New Candidates
Diligence Reports: We’ll have members share informal reports on their diligence regarding the three companies from last month. We’ll then proceed to make a collective decision for each whether or not to recommend investment.
Education: Each month someone will take two or three minutes to provide some basic education on investing. This month, I’ll take a few minutes to discuss the importance of diversification.
New Candidates: Here is the preliminary profile information for the three companies we’ll consider.
EnGen Bio
This startup is developing a more effective vaccine for the flu. Every year, billions of people receive vaccinations or get the flu—or both. Engen Bio hopes to offer the first vaccine for influenza type A that prevents the illness from occurring for life.
Joule Case
Seattle-based startup Joule Case is making big portable batteries for events, RVs and other on-the-go applications where lots of power is required. Subscriber Kathleen Minogue suggested this one. The company is raising money on Wefunder.
Blossoms Events and Catering LLC
This black-owned, woman-led company sells vegan-friendly boxed meals. With a minimum funding target of just $20,000, small investments could make a big difference for this company. The company is raising money on Crowdfund Mainstreet.
