Humanity and Hope United, a nonprofit working in rural Honduras, raised $37,000 in 36 hours on crowdfunding site CaringCrowd. The site, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, offers genuinely free crowdfunding services for global, public health related projects, charging only credit card processing.
Unlike some crowdfunding sites, CaringCrowd does not ask your donors to fund the operation. Johnson & Johnson funds that so it is truly free.
Humanity and Hope United is using the money it raised to drill a well in a remote Honduran village that lacks a source of clean water. Most people there are sick most of the time because of it. Dr. Rodrigo Diaz, a volunteer, explains that clean water to significantly reduce the incidence of diarrhea and other gastrointestinal diseases that hamper learning in school and productivity at work.

Rodrigo is currently the Franchise Medical Director at DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction (J&J Medical Devices), Power Tools and Mitek in Warsaw, Indiana. Rodrigo has held this position since January 2012 and works very close with new product development teams.
Rodrigo joined DePuy as a Clinical Research Associate in 2008. His last role was Manager of Clinical Research and Medical Safety Officer for Legacy DePuy Orthopaedics in Warsaw. He has been responsible for the Hip Portfolio and Team in the Clinical Research department, and for the medical review of Health Hazard Evaluations, clinical literature reviews, and overall medical input across the company. Before this position, Rodrigo was responsible for several clinical trials within the knee and trauma departments.
Before joining DePuy, Rodrigo was a Senior Project Manager at a Contract Research Organization focused on cardiovascular and orthopaedic devices. He has several years of experience in medical research including a significant ‘hands-on’ spell as a Clinical Research Coordinator at a busy orthopaedic practice in Miami, Florida. He also has several years of experience as an in-house physician at different hospitals assisting in orthopaedic surgery.
Rodrigo qualified in Medicine (MD) from Universidad de la Sabana in Bogota, Colombia with an emphasis in Family Medicine. He was a professor of Anatomy and Physiology for the Orthopaedic Regulatory and Clinical Affairs master’s program at Grace College in Winona Lake, IN, has published several papers related to Orthopaedic Surgery and received several awards, including the Young Hispanic Corporate Achiever. He currently is a member of the HOLA Senior Leadership Team, board member for Lakeland Christian Academy and board member of Humanity and Hope United Foundation, an international non-profit organization.
