Sometimes the people helping others rebuild need a hand themselves.
My friend and collaborator Prof. Alan Tratner is asking for help. His nonprofit, Green2Gold, has spent decades helping inventors and entrepreneurs turn environmental ideas into practical solutions. Now, repeated storms have disrupted its work in Lahaina, Maui.
Hawaiʻi has endured a brutal year. State officials estimated more than $680 million in damage and recovery costs from the March Kona Low storms and hurricanes Lala and Lowell, before Nolo arrived.
Alan reports that the Kona Low storms forced a relocation. Later came Lala, then Nolo, when a tree smashed through a window. Flooding and days without electricity, internet or phone service compounded the disruption. Refrigerated and frozen food spoiled.
These setbacks come as Lahaina continues recovering from the devastating 2023 wildfire. Green2Gold has helped champion “Build Back Green,” bringing attention to sustainable, resilient approaches to rebuilding Maui.
The irony is painful: an organization devoted to addressing environmental threats is struggling with disaster at its own doorstep.
At The Super Crowd, Inc., we collaborate with Alan and Green2Gold on our annual SuperGreen Live event, connecting climate solutions with capital and community. I’m asking our community to extend that same spirit of practical support to our partner now.
Your donation can help Green2Gold with repairs, cleanup and restoring its ability to serve entrepreneurs and advance recovery efforts. Alan is pursuing state and FEMA assistance and insurance claims, but the needs are immediate. Every gift, whatever its size, is welcome.
If you can give, please do. If you cannot, sharing this appeal can help it reach someone who can.
We talk often about using our resources to build a better world. Here is a chance to help someone who has dedicated his life to that work keep going.
Please join me in helping Green2Gold recover.
