GoodWorld Announces Million Dollar Challenge for #GivingTuesday
Tech startup will give up to $1M to charity to kick off giving season
Washington, D.C. — GoodWorld, the only company facilitating donations directly on Facebook and Twitter with a hashtag, will donate up to $1 million to charity for #GivingTuesday through its Million Dollar Challenge. Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity worldwide.
This is the first year GoodWorld has officially partnered with #GivingTuesday to use its #donate technology to make giving a simple, social experience. Social media users need only comment or tweet ‘#donate’ for instant donations to nonprofits on Facebook and Twitter.
“We launched the Million Dollar Challenge with the goal of rallying one million people to support the causes they care about on #GivingTuesday and spreading that generosity,” said Dale Nirvani Pfeifer, CEO and founder of GoodWorld. “This is the biggest day of the year for philanthropy, and we want to make it as easy and fun as possible for nonprofits and their networks to engage and amplify their good work in a way that inspires others. “
To sign up to participate in the Million Dollar Challenge, nonprofits need only to register here and post on #GivingTuesday with a call for supporters to #donate. For each of the first one million completed donations of $20 or more made to charity using #donate between December 1 and 31, 2015, GoodWorld will donate $1 to the respective nonprofit. GoodWorld currently works with over 700 nonprofits, including UNICEF, Save the Children, Oxfam, Humane Society International and the ALS Association.
#GivingTuesday was founded in 2012 by 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving.
“#GivingTuesday is an opportunity for nonprofit organizations and social enterprises to embrace new technologies and experiment with new ways to engage donors,” said Asha Curran, director of the Center for Innovation & Social Impact at 92nd Street Y. “GoodWorld’s Million Dollar Challenge for #GivingTuesday is an exciting example of that kind of growth and innovation in the area of social giving. The result is a more connected and inspired generation of givers.”

About GoodWorld
GoodWorld, Inc. was launched in 2014 as a platform to enable seamless donations on social media and encourage viral giving. As the pioneer of hashtag donations, GoodWorld is on a mission to blow open social media as a fundraising channel for non-profits and to allow social media users to directly contribute to the causes that they care about the most—making giving interactive, engaging and social. By typing “#donate” in the comment block of a partner charity’s Facebook page or by tweeting “#donate” at a charity, social media users trigger an immediate donation that is shared with their entire network.
Founder Dale Nirvani Pfeifer created GoodWorld after a Facebook post inspired her to donate, but the difficulty of the process left her frustrated. Other co-founders include attorney Charles McGuire Wien and COO John Gossart, former partner at the Daimler-acquired transportation tech startup Ridescout. GoodWorld’s investors include former CFO of Microsoft and General Motors Chris Liddell, former CTO and Co-Founder of Paypal Max Levchin, former Google Vice President of Wallet and Payments Osama Bedier, Nyca Partners Managing Director and former Visa President Hans Morris, and former CEO of the Washington Post Katharine Weymouth.
