Girls Overcome Poverty to Send Poor Girls to High School
Create Change Foundation is working to educate girls in Ghana coming from extreme poverty. Now, these educated girls want to send more girls to high school in Ghana. In order to make it happen, they are raising money on Indiegogo. Recently, we connected with Shannen O’brian to learn about the effort; here’s what she told us.
What is the social benefit you hope to achieve with or through your crowdfunding campaign?
This campaign, is groundbreaking as we are girls who have come from extreme poverty, overcome the odds and are now using crowdfunding to give other girls in Northern Ghana the chance to attend senior high school. We are recent high school graduates ourselves, and were able to graduate because we were sponsored through Create Change Foundation by people just like you. Now it’s our turn to do what we can to help the younger girls have the same chance we’ve received.
How much money are you hoping to raise and why? How much have you raised so far?
We are hoping to raise 45,000 and we just launched today! We hope to support as many girls to school as possible, so any additional contributions will go towards sending additional girls to school.
Whom are you trying to help with your project and why?
We know the difference that attending high school has made in our lives, and we want to extend this opportunity to as many young girls as we can. We know all too well the alternative, to get married, have children at a young age, and to continue the cycle of poverty. We will have hundreds of girls and their mothers lining up outside our office by the end of August, and we want to be able to help as many girls as we can to continue their education.
