Five Ways CSAA Insurance Group Is Using CSR To Drive Millennial Recruitment And Boost Employee Satisfaction
This is a guest post from Bruce Baumgarten, Director of Talent, CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA insurer.
Today, prospective recruits are holding companies to a higher standard when it comes to the environment, diversity and inclusion, employee wellness and more. While taking responsibility for these things improves a company’s positive perceptions with customers, millennials are carefully considering an organization’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) when looking at potential employment. By 2025, millennials will make up three-quarters of the workforce. This generation is known to bring their strong views on social and environmental responsibility into the workplace, sometimes turning down jobs with companies that do not participate in causes and uphold values that align with their own. CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, has found that recruiting talent and highlighting employee satisfaction goes hand in hand with corporate social responsibility.
CSAA Insurance Group is using CSR to help boost millennial recruitment and improve employee satisfaction with five key practices:
Creating volunteerism opportunities
Studies have shown that volunteer opportunities for employees boost morale, which can improve the overall workplace atmosphere and increase brand perception when searching for quality talent.Unlike some companies that might have one company-wide volunteer day per year, CSAA Insurance Group’s volunteer program operates year-round, offering ongoing volunteer opportunities to help match employee values. Employees have access to 24 hours of paid time off to volunteer each year. Last year, CSAA Insurance Group logged over 47,000 hours of volunteered time at more than 600 events – with an unprecedented 100% employee volunteer participation.
Providing more health & wellness programs
Comprehensive health and wellness programs help improve employees’ health while reducing healthcare costs, both of which can increase employee satisfaction. Promoting health and wellness is appealing to employees because it lets them know that the company cares and is willing to invest in their well-being. CSAA Insurance Group offers onsite fitness classes at multiple office locations, extra mental health coverage and financial education programs and resources. CSAA Insurance Group takes a holistic approach to promoting health and well-being with various wellness programs that are available throughout the year, helping employees to be not only healthy, but happy.
Creating financial wellness
CSAA Insurance Group recently launched a tuition-reimbursement program to help employees pay off their student loans. Student loan benefits are a growing trend among employers seeking to attract and retain young professionals. While many employer-sponsored student loan benefits provide employees a monthly dollar amount to pay down debts, CSAA Insurance Group has designed its contribution plan to encourage employees to both pay off their college debt and save for retirement. This creative approach saves people from having to make a common, but troubling, choice between tackling student debt or contributing to a retirement plan.
Creating a more diverse and inclusive culture
Creating an inclusive and diverse space for all employees helps attract a wider pool of qualified applicants. It also leads to increased profitability and employee satisfaction. CSAA Insurance Group prides itself on its diversity and inclusion efforts. It has actively partnered with organizations such as Facing History and Ourselves, which helps to continuously improve the company’s inclusion efforts. It also offers 17 employee resource groups and six regional diversity councils. In its last employee survey, the company found that nearly 80 percent of employees responded favorably to questions that focused on inclusion.
Supporting environmental efforts and environment sustainability
CSAA Insurance Group often supports environmental efforts and environmental sustainability, creating a strong sense of social responsibility. By focusing efforts on environmental responsibility, it aligns employees’ values with the company’s, helping to create connections. It also reuses and recycles materials whenever possible – because when we reduce our carbon emissions and trim energy use, we minimize pollution and contribute to healthier communities.
Aligning CSAA Insurance Group’s values with those of its employees creates a bond and lays a positive foundation for prospective employees as well. When companies decide that they want to place higher value on their CSR efforts, work becomes more meaningful for all, and this helps set CSAA Insurance Group apart from other companies that talent might be considering.Today’s talent is looking to work with companies that care about driving positive change, not only within the company but in the world.
