Could Wind Turbines That Look Like Flowers Play A Part In Your Energy Future?

Wind turbines are getting bigger and more efficient, now representing the cheapest form of energy on earth! In one corner of the industry, however, Dr. Daniel Farb has been working on little decorative turbines that can be installed on your roof.
These little guys aren’t as efficient as the big ones, but you can’t put a big one on your roof! His “flowers” can. And in some situations, he says, they may be as cost efficient–or more so–than rooftop solar.
To bring these to market, Farb has launched a crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine and has already raised over $130,000. He’s hoping now to raise over $1 million.

What is the purpose of your crowdfunding campaign?
The money will be used to make initial commercial projects to demonstrate the benefits and cost-effectiveness of farms of small wind turbines on commercial properties, and to obtain certifications to enable tax credits and other subsidies. With those in hand, the company will be able to expand the market substantially. This will lead to an increased presence of locally produced energy on the grid, reducing pollution, increasing energy security, and decreasing costs.

Flower Turbines has solved the technology and other factors holding back the implementation of small wind turbines in tight spaces and close to people and buildings. Using this technology, the company hopes to reach and exceed the current market size for solar PV, and provide 5% of grid electricity in markets where a good wind resource exists.

Dr. Daniel Farb’s bio:
Dr. Farb is a multidisciplinary high achiever who is passionate about a clean environment and making the transition to renewable energy. During the last 10 years, he has filed over 30 patents and pioneered several technologies in wind and water energy. His companies won recognition such as the Eurogia and Eureka labels for technological excellence, and an exhibition of the Wind Tulip at the Bloomfield Science Museum as one of the top 45 inventions in the history of Israel, where he performed most of the R&D. More recently, Flower Turbines was a winner at the US China Innovation Forum. Dr. Farb has a degree in English Literature from Yale, where he set an academic record by taking double the number of courses (mostly science) in one semester, and getting all As. He has a medical degree from Boston University and Executive Management from the UCLA Anderson School of Business. He has also written over 100 books and interactive training programs, mostly in areas of healthcare and business, but including a literary translation of a Russian novel and a Hebrew poet. He enjoys reading, culture, and the outdoors.
