CodersTrust Launches Indiegogo Campaign for Free IT Education in Nepal
CodersTrust is raising money on Indiegogo to provide Free IT education in Nepal after the earthquake. Recently, we connected with Shanel Dawson to learn more about the effort; here what he told us.
What is the social benefit you hope to achieve with or through your crowdfunding campaign?
In response to the recent devastating earthquakes in Nepal, Coders Trust is mobilizing their resources to provide free IT education for up to 1,000 Nepalese students around Kathmandu and also in the Bhaktapur region. Students accepted into the Nepal program will learn skills from basic data entry to front-end web development and advanced teaching and expertise to jump-start their own freelance careers on freelance job portals including Upwork.com. Ultimately, students in front-end web development may earn up to $12 per hour after five months of training.
Compared to the cost of an advanced education in the developed world, it costs relatively little money to learn a skill in the under-developed world that can act as a catapult to a more secure life.

How much money are you hoping to raise and why? How much have you raised so far?
An indiegogo page is now established to help defray program costs. The goal is $40,000 to be raised by August 31, 2015. Over the past 2 days Coderstrust has raised $2,820. In 3 months, CodersTrust plans to impact the lives of approximately 1000 people in Nepal with the proper funding. The students enrolled in the training will receive the tool to start earning $ 2/3 per hour after 3/4 months of constant practice. This is a lot of money for people who are used to earn $1/2 a day.
Coderstrust will help the students finding jobs with a dedicated team of bidders who will look for jobs on the freelance portals such as Upwork.com. The goal is set up a tent to train the students, and show that wherever you are, if you are connected to the Internet, you can Learn & Earn, borderless.
Furthermore, monsoon season is approaching in Nepal so plans may change and Coderstrust may go for renting a room that can better protect students and equipment.
Whom are you trying to help with your project and why?
Coderstrust is trying to help the Nepalese community. On April 25th, Nepal experienced a devastating earthquake that took the lives of more than 8000 people and have left thousands more injured and homeless.
Along with world heritage sites, several schools, colleges and offices have been destroyed, leaving the Nepalese people feeling hopeless and void. Coderstrust won’t bring food or supplies, but what they will bring is the most essential tool: education.
