Coders Trust Raises Funds Supporting Free On-Site IT Training In Nepal
July 23, 2015 – Compared to the cost of an advanced education in the developed world, it costs relatively little money to learn a skill in the under-developed world that can act as a catapult to a more secure life. Coders Trust is an online training initiative providing micro-loans for select students to learn programming code for eventual jobs in the IT field.
In response to the recent devastating earthquakes in Nepal, Coders Trust is mobilizing their resources to provide free IT education for up to 1,000 Nepalese students around Kathmandu and also in the Bhaktapur region. Students accepted into the Nepal program will learn skills from basic data entry to front-end web development and advanced teaching and expertise to jump-start their own freelance careers on freelance job portals including Upwork.com. Ultimately, students in front-end web development may earn up to $12 per hour after five months of training.
An indiegogo page is now established to help defray program costs. The goal is $40,000 to be raised by August 31, 2015. Vijay Shrestha is heading up the Nepal effort. With 20 years of experience in the airline industry, Vijay is past president of the Airline Operators Association of Nepal and a member of the government Civil Aviation Authority. According to Shrestha “Coders Trust has created a successful footprint in Bangladesh with our core program with more than 500 students in the program since our launch there in June 2014. With help from our mentoring and training many students earn up to $200 per month with no prior IT experience. We expect the same results with our non-profit efforts in Nepal.”
