Chance Encounter Between Israeli Musician And Palestinian Peace Activist Sparks Global Musical Project Of Hope And Inspiration
The SONGMAN project is creating songs telling the stories of inspiring people in areas of conflict or social injustice. The first episode (Israel-Palestine) has just been created.
Daniel Dor, an Israeli musician, crossed the Israeli Palestinian border with one purpose, to search for inspiration. Here he met Antwan (a former key member of “One Voice” and currently the Deputy Director of the “Holy Land Trust”) who he developed an instant connection with, eventually creating a song through his eyes. This event is documented in the SONGMAN first Chapter, a project that sets out to create songs telling the stories of brave inspiring men who promote positive change in areas of conflict or social injustice.
“As an Israeli, I never had the chance to meet and enjoy friendship with someone from the West Bank and this experience alone was comforting and mind opening. We spent time together in India, forming a friendship that put aside all conflict related tensions, enjoying each other’s company while traveling. That’s how Antwan begun sharing his vision and perception of the conflict. Antwan’s optimistic ideas and devotion towards creating a solution were so powerful; they inspired me to write Antwan’s song, hoping to spread his vision and ideas”.
The next chapter will see Daniel and his team travel to South Africa to meet Moses, a former drug mule who spent nearly two years in prison after he was caught smuggling marijuana into Heathrow Airport. On his return, amongst other achievements, he founded the Nonprofit Aga Sechaba community Project, fighting the increasingly damaging effects of drugs and creates job opportunities for rehabilitated drug users.
The journey started when Daniel was invited by Leaders Quest social enterprise to perform in India. After returning to Tel Aviv in November 2014, Daniel teamed up with UK based creative entrepreneurs Jamie Anley and Simon White and together they established the broader Idea of Songman, aiming to create more songs and documentaries of inspiring people around the world.
Daniel is now promoting the project on the kriticalmass, a social impact platform based in London, enabling projects to not only find funds, but skilled volunteers and well-aligned brands to join the journey.
Dor welcomes anyone who feels passionate about his cause to reach out and join the Songman story.
