Social Mission: We are trying to help adolescent girls in three schools in the south western district of Bukomansimbi. The selected schools are, St.Joseph SS Butenga, St. Victors SS Kitaasa and Butenga Parents SS. The reason for helping these schools is because they’re rural government schools with children from a poor background who cannot afford sanitary pads. And when they drop out at an early age because of lack of pads, they end up being married an early age.
Money and Progress: We hope to raise 14,400,000 Uganda shillings, that’s about 4000USD. We intend to use about 3500USD to buy Nouvel sanitary pads, that’s about 4465 pieces of pads that will be divided among the over 1000 girls. The rest of the money, about 500USD will cover transportation, reproductive health specialists and followup facilitation. So far, since we started, and that’s 5 days now, we have raised 100USD.
Social Benefit: We expect to keep over 1000 secondary school girls in school by providing them with sanitary pads. In Uganda, because pads are not available to every girl child, many girls drop out of school when they start menstruating due to embarrassment caused when they start and can’t deal with the issue.
