77 Percent of Cryptocurrency Holders Are Interested in Making Charitable Crypto Donations, New Survey Reveals
Cryptocurrency holders are more inclined to donate their crypto to a nonprofit or charitable cause than buy a CryptoKitty
Press Release – MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Nov. 27, 2018 – The cryptocurrency community desires to leverage its cryptocurrency holdings to benefit charitable causes, according to a new survey conducted by Pollfish and commissioned by WeTrust. A majority of cryptocurrency holders had already made a cryptocurrency donation, the survey found, and nearly 1 in 4 said they would be more likely to donate to a charitable cause if they could do so in cryptocurrency.
WeTrust recently launched WeTrust Spring, a platform that allows social entrepreneurs and nonprofits to raise funds via cryptocurrencies. WeTrust is running a Giving Tuesday donation-matching campaign for anyone who donates Ethereum to the platform’s nonprofit partners.
Among the findings of cryptocurrency holders:
55 percent believe the crypto community is more generous than the general population.
90.5 percent reported having made a monetary donation to a charitable cause (63 percent had done so within the past year).
77 percent are interested in making donations to a charitable cause they support in cryptocurrency.
63 percent said that, in an ideal world, they would donate more money to charitable causes (versus those who would donate the same amount).
62 percent said charitable organizations should embrace cryptocurrencies as a new way to fundraise (versus those who said charitable organizations are doing fine without them).
24 percent said they would be more likely to make a monetary donation to a charitable cause if they could do so in cryptocurrency.
79 percent expressed interest in making a donation to a nonprofit or charitable cause, or had already done so, while 71 percent said the same of purchasing a CryptoKitty (a popular blockchain-based game that allows players to purchase, collect, breed and sell various types of virtual cats).
Cryptocurrency holders support a wide range of causes, with children’s issues (49 percent), homelessness (42 percent), hunger (41 percent), and animals (38 percent) garnering the most interest. However, when it comes to navigating the giving landscape, cryptocurrency holders are torn: 54 percent believe it’s difficult to find good charitable causes among those that don’t live up to their promises, while 46 percent said there are too many good charitable causes to choose between.
WeTrust partnered with Pollfish to survey 1,000 adults in the United States who currently hold cryptocurrencies from Oct. 11 to 12, 2018. Pollfish applies machine learning and programmatic delivery to survey its mobile network of over 550 million global consumers across more than 140,000 vetted partner apps, resulting in highly specific targeting criteria and unprecedented data accuracy.
WeTrust provides cryptocurrency holders with the ability to make donations in Ethereum to participating nonprofits, spanning a range of causes from expanding access to educational resources to protecting tropical ecosystems and wildlife and delivering hygiene services to homeless individuals. Its platform WeTrust Spring currently accepts cryptocurrency donations only in Ethereum, but the WeTrust team is planning to introduce the capability to accept donations from any cryptocurrency in the future.
