A Little Delusional for Good

The other day, a person I love and respect accused me of being “delusional.”

He meant it as an insult.

It landed like one at the time, especially knowing his intent.

As I’ve reflected on the interaction since, I’ve realized that I am, in fact, a bit delusional. Fifteen years ago, I stepped into the second half of my career with a soft goal to make a difference. Within a few years, I hardened that goal into one I still consider a literal goal today: “to help solve the world’s biggest problems: climate change, global health and social injustice/poverty.”

For 15 years, I’ve been writing, speaking and producing content and events to highlight how we can use our money for good—even as ordinary, everyday humans. We don’t have to be wealthy philanthropists to make a difference.

Over those years, I’ve had opportunities to interview billionaires, movie and television celebrities, an Olympic medalist and many hundreds of CEOs and founders, from the smallest businesses to large corporations—always talking about how to use money and business for good.

We’re not done. In fact, at times, it feels like the progress has been one step forward and two steps back! The problems I set out to solve a dozen years ago are still problems. But I didn’t think I’d solve them singlehandedly in a year or two. I knew this was a decades-long process of growing movements.

Applications Open for Live Pitch at SuperCrowd26 featuring PurposeBuilt100™

STOCKTON, Calif. — July 10, 2026 — (KOREWIRE) The Super Crowd, Inc., a public benefit corporation, today announced that applications are now open for the Live Pitch at SuperCrowd26 featuring PurposeBuilt100™, the three-day televised event taking place August 25–27, 2026.

The Live Pitch will take place Wednesday, August 26, 2026, during SuperCrowd26 and will be broadcast live on SuperCrowd.tv and syndicated to the e360tv TV Network. Companies selected to participate will pitch before investor judges and a live audience, competing for both the Judges’ Award and the SuperCrowd Award.

Applications are free, take about five minutes to complete, and there is no cost to pitch if selected. The application deadline is July 31, 2026. Founders may apply at https://new.thesupercrowd.com/pitch26.

“The Live Pitch has always been the most exciting part of every SuperCrowd event because something real is on the line,” said Devin Thorpe, CEO of The Super Crowd, Inc. “The judges may vote for a company, or they may not. They may choose to invest, or they may not. The audience may vote for a company, or they may not. Audience members may invest, or they may not. That uncertainty is exactly what makes it compelling—it is all happening live on television.”

To be eligible, companies must have an active Regulation Crowdfunding offering at the time of application, on or before July 31, 2026, and should reasonably expect the offering to remain live on August 26, 2026, the day of the Live Pitch. The program is designed for purpose-driven founders raising capital from the crowd to scale companies with meaningful social or environmental impact.

Past SuperCrowd Live Pitch participants have reported raising capital directly as a result of their participation. RISE Robotics, winner of the Judges’ Award at the June 2025 Superpowers for Good Live Pitch, was ranked by Kingscrowd as the most successful crowdfunding raise of 2025 after quickly reaching the Regulation Crowdfunding cap.

Devin: What is your superpower?

Lauren: We see a problem and we want to solve it… not only for us, but we also want to solve it for everybody else.

Farmers face tough challenges in today’s world. Small-scale producers often struggle to get their goods to consumers, while buyers eager to support local farms find it difficult to connect. Lauren Lovejoy, founder of the Red Hen App, is solving both problems.

Lauren’s journey into farming wasn’t one she expected. “I am a farmer. I am a first generation,” she explained, adding, “Never thought in a million years I would be a farmer.” Facing health challenges led her to embrace farming and clean eating, ultimately inspiring her to create the Red Hen App.

Designed to function much like marketplaces such as Etsy or Airbnb, the app offers a simple, efficient platform for small farms to list their produce, meat, and other goods. Customers can search, purchase, and either pick up locally, arrange delivery, or have items shipped. “Farming is very difficult, and buying shouldn’t be difficult,” Lauren pointed out. “Let’s make this world easier.”

Lauren revealed the app now boasts participation from farms in 49 states, giving farmers across the country a way to find customers and thrive. “There are farmers in every corner of the country that wanted more access and wanted to make it easier,” she said.

To fund the development and scaling of the app, Lauren turned to regulated crowdfunding. Previously, she executed a successful Honeycomb Credit campaign and is currently raising funds on Wefunder. Discussing the financial realities, she said, “Tech is expensive… I bootstrapped the whole first two-thirds of the app.” Now, with the platform proven, she’s partnering with investors to expand its reach and impact.

Over those years, I've had opportunities to interview billionaires, movie and television celebrities, an Olympic medalist and many hundreds of CEOs and founders, from the smallest businesses to large corporations—always talking about how to use money and business for good.

We're not done. In fact, at times, it feels like the progress has been one step forward and two steps back! The problems I set out to solve a dozen years ago are still problems. But I didn't think I'd solve them singlehandedly in a year or two. I knew this was a decades-long process of growing movements.

Today, I think of myself as being a bit beyond one-third of my timeline. Progress has been slow, but momentum is building. The SuperCrowd community is growing. By some measures, dramatically. Our TV audience has grown tenfold in three years. Our paid subscribers have consistently grown about 80 percent per year with no sign of slowing down (thank you, Impact Members)!

More importantly, our work at the SuperCrowd (credit to Chandan and the SuperCrowd community, more than me) makes an impact.

Just last year, we featured 69 companies raising capital on Superpowers for Good, produced six live pitch events with about two dozen presenting companies, and surfaced roughly 600 impact investment opportunities through our Monday “New Impact Offerings” posts.

We published a full 2025 Impact Report because accountability matters to me. The report is imperfect—a first attempt to measure what we can, estimate what we must, and acknowledge what we still can’t prove. The evidence leads us to conclude that somewhere between half a million and a million dollars of impact capital was catalyzed by our work. A tiny fraction of the market, but infinitely more than I could deploy myself.

So, am I delusional in thinking that I can help change the world? Absolutely. I was one in 7 billion when I started, and now 1 in 8 billion humans on the planet. I'm delusional. But let's be clear, the only people who ever change the world for the better are (at least a little bit) delusional.

“We actually have taken the wealth of aging science that’s out there,” Daniel explained, “and have been able to turn them into one-time therapies. Effectively, we’re able to inject a patient—whether it’s a dog, a cat, or a human—and the data suggests we can treat multiple different diseases.”

Daniel shared his excitement about testing these therapies on animals, highlighting initial successes with several high-profile pharmaceutical companies, including Merck’s animal health division, which has also invested in the company. Early results show these treatments not only improve health outcomes but also have the potential to be safe, accessible, and affordable.

Unlike traditional gene therapies for humans, which can cost millions, Rejuvenate Bio’s approach for animals carries a dramatically lower price tag. “We’ve reduced the manufacturing costs to the point where we can treat chronic, lifetime diseases at around $100 per dose,” Daniel said. This affordability has broad implications for human treatments too, ensuring accessibility beyond just the wealthy elite.

Beyond the practical applications, the mission of Rejuvenate Bio is deeply human. Chronic diseases, Daniel noted, account for enormous healthcare costs and significant suffering. He envisions a future where people and pets alike can experience more healthy years together. “What if,” he posed, “instead of a laundry list of side effects, new treatments came with a list of novel benefits?”

How to Develop Curiosity and Humility As a Superpower

Daniel attributes his success to a combination of curiosity and humility. “When you’re doing these types of startup companies, you’re never going to come to the table with all the skills and experiences you need,” Daniel said. His curiosity drives him to seek knowledge and advice, while his humility allows him to admit there is always more to learn. By embracing these values, Daniel has built an adaptable, reflective leadership style that encourages innovation and resilience.

Daniel’s humility and curiosity were tested during his time at Caltech, where the demanding academics overwhelmed him. As we move through the summer of 2026, Regulation Crowdfunding (Reg CF) has solidified its role not merely as an alternative funding mechanism, but as a primary vehicle for impact-driven founders to align their cap tables with their communities.

Over the past week, a remarkable cohort of 15 impact-focused companies successfully closed their crowdfunding campaigns, collectively securing $4,102,102.00 in capital. During the Bicentennial Year of the United States, 1976, I was eleven years old. My grade school spent the entire year spooling up celebrations and even cut an album—I kid you not—of the students, including me, singing patriotic songs and the like. As a fifth grader, I had a moderately prominent role in the effort and was chosen to deliver a recorded speech for the album.

My excitement for the Bicentennial was beyond description.

I imagined myself living—and set a genuine goal I cannot shake—to live to the age of 111 so that I could be interviewed on National Television in 2076 on Independence Day as a bit of living history, someone who could recall 15 or 20 presidents, wars beginning with Vietnam, the fireworks, the tall ships in Boston Harbor and other Bicentennial celebrations—including my grade school album.

My colleague and friend Chandan challenged me to write an upbeat post about Independence Day and impact crowdfunding. I can’t do it.

Here’s the reality. I already have 60+ years of perspective. What America is experiencing today at the hands of a would-be dictator threatens everything I love about America. President Donald Trump is, imho, a petty thug.

Let me be clear about something, too. This isn’t about left-right politics. His hand-picked Supreme Court has ruled against him on some key issues, including this week’s ruling on birthright citizenship.

With the help of AI, I compiled a list of 30 substantial critiques of his term, many of which, if not most, resonate with people across the political spectrum. You can read it here.

Let me give you one of my “favorites.”

Just a few weeks into his term, he terminated at least 17 inspectors general throughout the Federal Government. The President is required by law to provide 30 days' notice and a case-specific rationale for any such termination. He didn’t.

Perhaps you’re thinking that he just purged the government of needless, wasteful spending on bureaucrats. That is a tempting argument. Do you know what the job of an inspector general in the Federal Government was before Donald Trump?

These are the guys responsible for preventing and detecting waste, fraud and abuse, especially from inside the government. One definition says:

In the U.S. federal government, an inspector general is traditionally an independent internal watchdog inside a federal agency.

Their core role is to help ensure that agencies obey the law, spend public money properly, operate efficiently, and correct serious problems. Under the Inspector General Act, IG offices are meant to be “independent and objective” units that conduct audits and investigations, promote economy and effectiveness, prevent and detect fraud and abuse, and keep both agency leaders and Congress informed about problems and corrective action

In other words, Trump fired the people who would monitor him and his minions in the government. He replaced them with cronies who passed his test of loyalty.

If firing the very people who stop corruption in the Government without cause or process isn’t the act of a corrupt wannabe strong man, I’d love to learn what is.

I hate to be a downer on the 4th of July. I also hate to be living in a country sliding into oppression, wrapped in the Red, White and Blue. You’ll have to forgive me for my muted celebration this year.

November’s mid-term elections provide Americans with what could be one last opportunity to rein in a President who sees Vladimir Putin and Adolf Hitler as role models. I hope we’ll use it.

In 2021, while working full-time, Joey opened his first business: a restaurant concept called Mac Shack. The business ultimately failed after two years, leaving him with a difficult but defining insight: one of the hardest parts of entrepreneurship is the cost of isolation.

While looking for his next project, Joey noticed the same pattern across his 65+ portfolio companies. Devin: What is your superpower?

Dr. Carole: I’ve always had the ability to communicate even the most complex problems in a way that anybody can understand.

The toughest battles often require the most creative solutions. Chemotherapy saves lives, but it can also lead to debilitating, lifelong nerve damage—also known as chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Dr. Carole Spangler Vaughn, CEO of Eisana Health and a cancer survivor herself, is solving this overlooked problem with a revolutionary product.

Carole discovered that cooling hands and feet during treatment can reduce blood flow, preventing chemo drugs from damaging nerves in these areas. When she was a cancer patient, Carole improvised with baggies of frozen corn. While this crude method helped her avoid nerve damage, she recognized the need for a better, scalable solution. “As a medical innovator, I figured there’d be an easy way for me to do that,” Carole revealed during today’s episode. “But I learned very quickly there’s no solution for cancer patients.” That realization led her to found Eisana Health.

Carole’s innovation is far more advanced than her frozen-corn workaround. Eisana Health’s cooling gloves and booties are safe, portable, and designed for long hours of use. “Cancer patients don’t need to be ice cold or risk frostbite,” Carole explained. “Our products are designed to cool effectively, allowing patients to use their phones, eat, and walk while receiving treatment.”

In addition to Carole’s inspiring story as a scientist-turned-entrepreneur, today’s episode included an announcement about Eisana Health’s crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. With their 510(k) FDA exemption, Eisana Health plans to launch their product quickly and grow through a phased approach, starting in Houston before scaling nationally. Since launching in 2023, the organization has completed 23 projects, helped double the number of faith-based organizations with solar installations in Michigan, and built a pipeline of approximately 50 ESSA projects representing nearly $5 million in identified opportunities. The current project will supply approximately 58% of A.R.M.I. Ministries’ annual electricity needs, enabling the church to redirect energy savings toward community programs and ministry initiatives. Big news for the SuperCrowd community: The Super Crowd, Inc., a public benefit corporation, has partnered with KoreWire to launch SuperCrowd Impact Wire, a new service designed to help impact companies, founders, issuers, sponsors and changemakers share their news more effectively.

We’ve been using KoreWire for our own press releases and for client announcements, and the results have impressed me. Press release distribution is not a commodity.
